For March 2008 only, Enterprise Edge can offer a mailing list of 394 companies that have registered as private limited companies between 1st November 2007 and 29th February 2008 in Cornwall. Each record will include the business name, registered office address, a contact name (where available) and will be supplied in Excel format.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is calling on Chancellor Alistair Darling to produce a Budget that will help to win back the confidence of small businesses. In its 2008 Budget Submission, the FSB recommends the Government curbs its proposed fuel rise charge and holds local referendums to decide on road pricing policies. The Federation also reiterates its stance on Government views of tax arrangements for family firms. The FSB says its Budget Submission comes at a time when small business confidence in the Government is 'at its lowest ebb'.

Hackers develop Google-based scanning tool

Notorious hacker group Cult of the Dead Cow (cDc) has released a web auditing tool which uses Google to find vulnerabilities on sites. The group claims that the Goolag Scanner enables anyone to audit their own website via Google.

Truro and Penwith Colleges have funding available for 20 people from ICT businesses to obtain free NVQ qualifications. The only restriction is that you must not currently have a degree. The qualifications are primarily assessed in the workplace, assessors are able to schedule meetings at a time and frequency that causes least disruption to your business.

Teddie of Search Engine Marketing firm Neutralize managed to catch up with Blake Chandlee (Commercial Director) of Facebook UK, who gave an excellent presentation about Facebook at Londons TFM&A (Technology For Marketing & Advertising). He agrees Cornwall should be a valid network. Blake says he promises to do his up-most to make This happen.

Storm Worm prolific, says report

IBM's latest X-Force Security Report has pinpointed the Storm Worm as the model that many cybercriminals use to infiltrate a user's system and steal sensitive personal or company data. The report said the Storm Worm was the most pervasive Internet attack in 2007 and it continues to infect computers' on a global scale. The Storm Worm, like other malware, is constantly updated by its authors in a bid to evade anti-virus protection.

Macs will be susceptible to attack, says survey

Another survey has revealed that people increasingly believe that Apple Macs will become targets for malware developers. The Sophos research showed that 93% of respondents think Macs will be targeted in the future. Sophos devised the survey after the first financially motivated malware was discovered for Mac OS X. The Mac is popular with small firms in the media industry.

Adobe developers take to the Air

Adobe has officially released its Air development tool to the public. Air allows developers to create rich internet applications which function over the web and locally on a user's PC. "This is an exciting time for Adobe," said Kevin Lynch, Adobe's chief technology officer. Several companies have released Air-based applications to coincide with the launch, including eBay, AOL and Salesforce.

Microsoft to push IE 8 public beta

Microsoft has surprised watchers by saying that it will shortly make a first beta of Internet Explorer 8 generally available. In a mail-out to previous testers, Microsoft said it would make the pre-release code available to the “general public” but pointed out that it is “focused on the developer community”.

Scammers launch 'out of office' spam

Spammers are increasingly using 'out of office' features in web-based email to relay junk messages, security experts warned today. McAfee Avert Labs reported several instances where spammers set up web-based email accounts and configured auto responders with spam messages.
